Our Classes

We teach children and parents/carers in small, friendly classes, using a programme devised by specialist teachers and native speakers; each lesson is planned in great detail, with supporting material to take home and new topics every term.

Fidgets classes are very active – from big action songs to sticky craft activities - and we make as much use as possible of all the 5 senses. We believe singing is a crucial part of language learning and include a special snack and story in every lesson. Our cute puppets and pretend shop resources make our classes a delight to behold.

Our aim is that you will learn with your child so that you will both be equipped with the sort of phrases you might find useful abroad. We provide you with your own Fidgets songbook for you to keep and your take-home material mean the whole family can participate. Our popular e-newsletters keep you up-to-date with news, information and topical links, so that language learning becomes precious and delightful learning experience to share with your little one.

Background

The Fidgets method of teaching has been refined and developed over several years by Lucy Amos. As well as a modern languages degree from Durham University (French, German, Italian) and a primary teaching qualification (PGCE) from Sussex, Lucy has extensive experience and knowledge of early years best practice; inspired by Maria Montessori and the Reggio Emilia phenomenon she has created a range of resources to enhance early language learning. Lucy has drawn on her cathedral school background and drama training to write a programme of music and role play to add to the fun.

French and Spanish for Fidgets is not a franchise. Our teachers are highly trained, educated and well-travelled individuals. The aim of the classes is to make learning French or Spanish a truly delightful experience. As a parent (and teacher) there is nothing more rewarding than seeing a child speak another language for the first time. By putting fun first, children learn to speak without the inhibitions that can really hold back older learners. When you learn a language by far the most important thing is to have a go because this is how you'll start chatting to people in France or Spain, where the language experience truly begins...
